The groundwork for the development of the National Productivity and Competitiveness policy has begun with a series of consultative workshops across the country with the first being held in Kasane. Participants have been drawn from the private sector, government, labour, local authorities, faith-based organizations etc.

The Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis, (BIDPA) has been tasked by the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs to conduct a situation analysis of the productivity and competitiveness in Botswana. The findings of the study will form basis for the development of the National productivity and competitive policy and strategy.

The study is the first of the Botswana-EU policy dialogue facility with other projects expected to be implemented through other government ministries in selected thematic areas such as gender equality, trade, education, governance and training and others.

The project is part of the 11th European Development Fund (EDF 11) which aims to strengthen relations, including economic relations between the government of Botswana and the European Union and to elevate the long-standing development cooperation towards equal partnership.
